CHANCELLOR’S 3 THINGS TO KNOW

Welcome to the inaugural edition of @ The Flagship, a monthly update from the University of Mississippi featuring recent news, points of pride, and a photo of the month. Each month, I’ll start by sharing three things you need to know. Here are your top three for February:

STEM Naming Gift: On behalf of the university community, I’m honored to extend an ecstatic and heartfelt thanks to business leaders and brothers Thomas and Jim Duff of Hattiesburg for their $26 million naming gift for our new Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) building. Because of the Duffs’ vision and inspiring generosity, our state-of-the-art 204,000-square-foot STEM facility is a huge step closer to reality. As the largest, single construction project in university history, I can’t wait to see how it will become one of the nation’s leading student-centered hubs for STEM education!

Carnegie Designation: The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching recognized the university for its community engagement efforts with the Elective Carnegie Community Engagement Classification. This designation is a reflection of our proven commitment to engaging with partners, building on assets and addressing a wide array of community challenges. It’s an important recognition that honors the students, faculty, staff and community members who work every day to sustain and advance our efforts to improve conditions and communities across the state and around the globe.

R2-D2 at Your Service: The newest members of our campus community are creating a lot of buzz. Through a recent partnership with Starship Technologies, we have 30 rugged little robots delivering food to Rebels all over campus. Ole Miss is one of only 10 universities in the country (and the first in the SEC) to host autonomous delivery robots. Our community is embracing this service enabled by cutting-edge technology to improve campus life. Who wouldn’t want a little robot to deliver a pizza as you try to power through a late-night study session?

See you around the Flagship! Hotty Toddy!
