In 2008, Chancellor Robert Khayat issued a proclamation that designated the last day of classes of the spring semester to be recognized as “University Memorial Day.” The date is signified with a corresponding event, normally held in the Paris-Yates Chapel.
The university community mourns the loss of any member of our family, and this time together allows us to remember and reflect. We find that the grief and sadness that accompanies our losses can eventually give way to remembrance and appreciation for the life of the person whose presence blessed our lives.
During the annual event, the university community comes together to remember those cherished individuals. We reflect on the memories and positive times to remind ourselves to live life to the fullest; enjoying the seemingly insignificant moments with others is the real reason for our existence.
This year, while we cannot physically be together to mourn those we have lost in the 2019-2020 academic year, we recognize the impact the students, faculty, and staff that have passed over the last year by honoring them on this site as well as during an in-person event at a later time.
